Tianna N. Harjo, Viola
Tianna N. Harjo is a Nevada native, originally from Reno Nevada. Tianna is a graduate of the University of Nevada, Reno, where she earned her Bachelor of Music, Applied Music (2004) and Master of Music, Applied Music with a special emphasis in Orchestral Performance (2008). While working on her Master's Degree, she was a member of the prestigious Nightingale String Quartet. She also held the position of Graduate Teaching Assistant at the University of Nevada, Reno, teaching all undergraduate viola students and coaching chamber groups. Tianna has performed throughout the Western United States with various organizations such as the Reno Chamber Orchestra, the Reno Philharmonic, the Nevada Opera Association, the Casual Masterclassics Series, the AVA Ballet Company, the Susanville Symphony, the Nevada Chamber Festival, the String Beings String Quartet and Accent String Quartet.
In addition to traditional classical music venues, she has performed with performers and in various shows such as the Phantom of the Opera (the Venetian, Las Vegas),The Transiberian Orchestra, The Electric Light Orchestra (ELO), YES!, Edger Meyer, Peter Cetera, Natalie Cole, Sarah Chang, Joshua Bell, Smokey Robinson, Luciano Pavarotti and many others. In addition to performing, Tianna is an accomplished conductor and instructor, most recently holding the position of Assistant Conductor of the Susanville Symphony. She has been a viola section and string section coach for various youth orchestras and community orchestras. Tianna was integral in founding an after school program in collaboration with the Washoe County School District to introduce all types of music to students who did not have a music program in their school. In conjunction with the Reno Philharmonic, she was also an advocate of music education through the Discover Music Program - a program designed to promote music to children of all ages. In addition to performing, Tianna is an avid arranger for String Trios, String Quartets and String Ensembles - specializing primarily in contemporary and rock genres. Aside from performing and arranging, Tianna teaches privately and is constantly promoting music education, especially amongst the youth of our community.
